Cape Public Schools Update 4/3
April 3, 2020
Dear Tiger Families,
We hope this email finds you and your loved ones well. We wanted to share some important updates with you today.
We will not be serving meals on Friday, April 10 or Monday, April 13. Those days were already scheduled off on the school calendar for our spring break. Two breakfast meals and two lunch meals will be served to each child on Thursday, April 9.
Aside from that scheduling change, we will continue to provide breakfast and lunch at each of our five elementary school buildings from 10:00 a.m. to noon each day. We have proudly served over 30,000 meals over the last couple of weeks. Your kind words and thanks have kept us going. We are thankful to have the opportunity to continue to serve our families in this way during the time we are out of school.
Please make note of one change to our serving procedures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. We are now doing NO CONTACT pick up. Meals will be placed on a table by the curb and an adult will need to quickly exit his/her car to grab the meal from the table. Please do not exit your vehicle until the school worker has stepped away from the table.
One other important home safety note:
You may have heard tornado sirens throughout the Cape Girardeau area Wednesday afternoon. This was a regularly scheduled one-minute live test of the severe weather sirens. We would like to encourage all of our families to revisit your home emergency plan, specifically for tornadoes. With children being out of school right now and this being the beginning of severe weather season, it’s important that your family establishes an emergency plan and practices it. We do emergency drills at school all the time. The same should be done at home. If you need help creating your family’s emergency plan, visit www.ready.gov.
We care deeply about our students and their families and realize you are juggling a lot right now. Please know that we are here to support you. If there is something we are missing, please email your child’s principal or teacher so we can help make the proper connections to resources available in our community.
All buildings remain closed during this time, including our playgrounds. The Board Office at 301 North Clark is open each day from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We strongly encourage you to call 573-335-1867 or email Tiger Help between those hours for assistance.
One last request, your child’s teacher and principal are missing their students. If you get a moment to send them an encouraging email or message, it would mean the world to them. We are a family, and it’s important we continue to lift each other up, and focus on the positives within our wonderful community.
Stay safe,
Cape Girardeau Public Schools
