Cape, Jackson Memorial Day Events Canceled
The Cape Girardeau Joint Veterans Council has decided to cancel the annual Memorial Day Service at the Osage Center, which would have been held on May 25. They felt it was not a good idea to assemble the 3-400 attendees for the event in light of the current situation with the COVID-19 Virus. They thank you for your continued support of veterans issues and ask you to remember those who served and sacrificed themselves for our freedom.
The Jackson Memorial Day event has been canceled as well. The veterans from the Jackson American Legion post 158 will still be out on Friday and Saturday, placing the flags on the veterans’ graves in the City Cemetery and in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson. All told, they’ll be putting out over 1100 flags. The American Legion post 158 said that any smaller, rural area churches or cemeteries wanting flags for those graves can contact the American Legion in Jackson to get some.
