Union County Circuit Court Remains Open
Certain Dockets Reset Until Further Order of Court
Union County Circuit Court in Jonesboro remains open as we all continue to deal with the ongoing public health situation regarding the COVID-19 coronavirus. Following guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Union County Circuit Court is taking steps to minimize contact to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus. The following matters in Union County Circuit Court have been continued until further order of the court:
- All Felony (CF) matters where the defendant is not in custody
- Misdemeanor (CM) and Conservation (CV)
- Traffic (TR), Ordinance (OV) and Civil Law (CL)
- DUI (DT) other than Statutory Summary Suspension (SSS) Hearings
- Pay or Appear and Status dates on criminal matters
- Juvenile matters other than as outlined below
- Civil jury trials
- Law (L), Law Magistrate (LM) and Small Claims (SC)
- Chancery (CH) and Probate (P)
- Family (F), Dissolution (D) and Adoption (AD)
- Tax (TX)
- Miscellaneous Remedies (MR)
- Marriages and Civil Unions
The attorney of record or unrepresented party in each case will receive a notice via mail or email when a case is rescheduled. It is the responsibility of each party to ensure that current contact information is on file with the Union County Circuit Clerk. The Union County Circuit Clerk may be reached at (618) 833-5913.
The following matters in Union County Circuit Court shall proceed as scheduled:
- All Felony (CF) matters where the defendant is in custody
- Juvenile temporary custody (shelter care) hearings and Juvenile detention hearings
- Mental Health (MH) hearings
- Emergency and Plenary Orders of Protection
- DUI (DT) Statutory Summary Suspension (SSS) Hearings
- Emergency matters scheduled with the Circuit Clerk and with approval of the Presiding Judge
Persons in the following categories should not enter the Union County Courthouse:
- Have traveled outside of the United States within the preceding 14 days; or
- Reside or have close contact with anyone who has been outside of the United States within the preceding 14 days; or
- Have been directed to quarantine, isolate or self-monitor at home by any medical provider or governmental authority; or
- Have been diagnosed with, or have had close contact with anyone diagnosed with, COVID-19; or
- Have flu-like symptoms including fever, cough or shortness of breath.
Any person summoned for jury service should follow instructions included with the jury notice.
The Union County Circuit Court will continue to work with state and local officials to ensure access to the court system while also protecting the health of court personnel, litigants and the public.
